The Eighth Annual New Hampshire Troopers Association Golf Tournament was held on August 6, 2007. In this tournament we raise funds to go into our Charity Account. We use this account for scholarships, donations to good causes, crisis assistance to members, and to help out in the catastrophic times of the loss of one of our members.
Our luck could only hold out for so long. This year we started out at 8:00 AM getting the course ready with sunny skies and a little cool. Then by about 8:45 AM the skies clouded over and about 9:15 AM the skies opened up... We had waves of heavy rain all day and then around 2:00 PM the lightning rolled in forcing us to pull the teams off the course. This year we had given away light wind/rain jackets instead of shirts, and we will take credit for good planning rather than thinking we jinxed the day.
Everyone still had a great time and some teams got in sixteen holes, but everyone got thirteen holes in, so the scores were based on thirteen holes. With a score of -9, Team Alan Hill returned to the podium after a couple years of finishing in third place. The team of Alan Hill, Joe King, Vynnie Hale, Larry Nicol and Dan Moquin dedicated this year's win to a perennial team member who passed away last year, Dean McKinnon. Each member of the winning team won a pair of ECCO Golf Shoes. Coming in Second Place with a score of -8 was the team of Sgt. Carrie Nolet, Lt. Harry Nadeau, Judge Paul Desjardins, James White and Mike Covill. The Second Place Team each won a custom "trouble wood" specially made for our event. The Third Place Team had a score of -7 and was identified after a very complicated matching of scorecards. Team Rick Ball made up of Rick Ball, Dick Ball, Jim Wilson, Bruce McDowell and Darren Perkins each took home a custom utility wedge for Third Place.
Overall, everyone still had a great day regardless of the rain. The prizes were plentiful thanks to our many sponsors. The food was awesome thanks to the crew at the Maplewood Resort, and the camaraderie of friends was great.
Mark your calendars, as we have secured Monday, August 4, 2008 for the Ninth Annual NH Troopers Golf Classic.
